Well, it’s been a hell of a weekend, hasn’t it? After all the buildup, it ended up being a final rush to the finishing line as revisions crept up and had to be put in place. Thankfully, after browsing Kboards – a forum I recommend for anyone whose looking at self-publishing on kindle – I found that I wasn’t the only one who’d made some fundamental errors on my listing – putting my wife as the Author by accident being the main one.
I’ve learned a few lessons from this, and thankfully I’m in a position to capitalise on them. I drove myself to utter distraction this last week, leading to a migraine on Tuesday and revisions right up to pressing the ‘publish’ button on Saturday.
Thankfully, I’ve now got a two-book buffer between publishing dates, and I’ve already started making inroads into The Devil’s Regiment. I’m hoping to maintain that two book buffer going forward, thus meaning that I don’t have this massive last week panic.
I’ve also learnt that it’s going to be a long road – but I expected that. Currently I have 6 sales on kindle, pretty much all of which I can account for as friend and family! It’s easy to get a bit caught up mentally hoping that things’ll suddenly explode and I can quit the day job, but after reading some of the testimonials on Kindle Publishing, it’s good to know I’m not the only one who thought that and had to deal with the post-publish hangover.
Thankfully, it isn’t really about the money at the moment. Hopefully that’ll be the way it goes in future, but for now the big part is getting my book published and getting it up online – the longest journey starts with a single step after all.
Oh, you may have also noticed that I have a shiny new domain name, and a books page that actually has a book on it – please give it a look if you like short, pulp fantasy reads for an hour or two’s fun!
