If this was NaNoWriMo, I’d be done by now…

So, I hit the big 50k yesterday, slammed through the Barrier and out the other side, and I did it by writing the end of a battle that, in most of my books would have been the final set piece rather than a halfway-to-last-third skirmish.

I decided a little while ago that Call of Herne needed a battle to give an example of the size of Herne’s force, similar to the way Tolkein set up the battle of Pelinor fields by using Helms Deep.

No, I’m not comparing myself to Tolkein, don’t get heated up. That was just an example of a literary device.

I’m not going to lie, the sheer scale of this book is starting to grind me down a bit, but as I get into the final third or so, I’m at least comforted by the fact that the end is in sight.  I love my characters, truly I do, but I’m looking forward to having a wee bit of a break from them at this point!
