The future is now.

I’ve been thinking a lot recently about how I want to proceed as as writer. Given that I’ve just published two full length novels in a row, one of which is currently on sale for just 99c, I’ve proven to myself that I can actually sustain writing in its longer form.

Which is good, really, but has actually rather shaken up my plans going forward. I’m currently just shy of thirty thousand words into Clockworld, and the story is starting to really come together. Again, this is a full length novel, my third in the space of two years. I know that compared to some writers that isn’t that great of an output, but it feels staggering to me.

It also puts me 2-0 up over George RR Martin. Just saying.

So with that in mind, I’ve been taking a long hard look at the High Moon Rising  and Order of Britain series. Originally, my plan was for season two to be four novellas per series, plus another big crossover novel at the end. Now, however, I’m starting to rethink things.

I thoroughly believe that where the two series were strongest was in their overarching plot lines. Yes, I loved the individual adventures, but the conspiracy behind the main stories really pulled the whole universe together. So I’ve been revising my plans into something a bit more… focused. In the first season, I’d basically pick a storyline and then faff around with it until it fit the arc. Now I’ve got a better idea of how to make this stuff work, I’ve got an opportunity to put together a much more focused product.

New plan.

Rather than four shorter stories that vaguely come together to an endgame, the plan is to have three novels on each series that link together. Given that the world the two series are set in has substantially changed since the opening pages of Blood and Fang this gives me a greater chance to explore it. There will still be the big crossover at the end, but now it will be less stand alone,  and more of an ongoing storyline. Don’t worry, I’ve still got plenty of fun planned for Jim, Callum and the gang, but now there is a definite endgame to work towards.

This is going to be Fun.
